Jackie Millar's thesis is a historical and philosophical exploration of the relationship between humans and horses. It highlights how important art has been and still is in understanding the human connection with the animal world.

Man’s emotional attachment to the horse has been altered from one of necessity (as an element in a meal) to one of motion, firstly for getting from A to B, now to the horses of the racetracks; this attachment is one which is involved in human pride, ending in rich profits or high losses, which are normally to pride rather than finances.
